TOUR PROGRAM:

Day 1. Dushanbe

Arrival to the city of Dushanbe. The beginning of the excursion to the sights of the city. Ismail Somoni Square, Rudaki Park, the park of the tallest flagpole in the world (165m), the square of the National emblem, Presidential Palace and Kokhi Navruz. Lunch at the national restaurant Chakan. After lunch we go on an excursion to the Khisor fortress (Hisar fortress). The history of Khisor is colorful, as the fortress is a stronghold of the local forces of the Basmachi (local freedom fighters). Although in the 1920s, a power struggle was waged in the region between the Bolshevik forces and the Pan-Turkist potential occupiers under the Ottoman Enver Pasha. Back to Dushanbe, visit the Mehrgon bazaar. For our local team today is the day of preparing the transports and products necessary for our trip to the Pamirs. Dinner at the restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2. Dushanbe – Kalai Khumb (Darvaz)

In the morning we start driving to east towards Khorog and Pamir in Kalai Khumb. Kalai Khumb is the center of the Darvaz region of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of the Republic of Tajikistan. More conservative views of the region can be seen in the local style of dress, the hospitality is just as welcoming. Lunch in a picturesque place next to a small lake. You will drive through the Sagirdasht (Haburabad) pass. Here you will see beautiful landscapes, views of snowy peaks and several passes. Several photo stop in villages to get to know the local life. Arrival to Kalai Khumb. Accommodation in a guest house. Dinner.

Day 3. Kalai Khumb – Khorog

This morning, our path runs along the Pyanj River, which is a tributary of the mighty Amu Darya River and along which the border of Tajikistan with Afghanistan runs. It’s a fun ride. On the Tajik side of the river, the road is asphalted and there are modern buildings with electricity. On the Afghan side, there is no road as such and the buildings are built of clay and wood. The close distance between Khorog and the Afghan side will amaze you. We continue our way to Khorog, a small town in a mountain valley, the capital of the autonomous Gorno-Badakhshan region. The city is located at an altitude of 2000 m. above sea level, along both sides of the Gant River. Several kilometers downstream, the Gant connects with the Panj River, which delineates the border with Afghanistan. In Khorog we visit the Botanical Garden. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 4. Khorog – Ishkashim – Yamg – Langar

In the morning after departure, visit the famous Garmchashma hot spring near Khorog. Then we drive to Ishkashim, a small town located at the mouth of the Wakhan Corridor, where the Great Game ended in the 19th century. Before reaching Ishkashim, we will stop to make a short walk to the ruins of an ancient fortress called Kakh-Kakha. Kaakha or Kakh-Kakha fortress of the 4th century AD, Kushan era. Then we head up the northern side of the river with a stunning view of the Pamir Mountains. Since we are in the Wakhan corridor, we will have amazing views of the Pamir on the left and the Hindu Kush on the right. And right ahead you will have a view of Karl Marx Peak (6723 m). Continue driving to Yamchun and along the ridge to see the Zoroastrian “Fortress of Fire Worshipers”. Further up the slope are the hot springs at Bibi Fatima. Here you can take a natural steam bath in a rocky cave. Overnight at the guest house in the village of Langar.

Day 5. Langar – Bulunkul – Yashilkul

Let’s start the day with a visit to the petroglyphs. More than 600 rock paintings were created by the ancient inhabitants of that area. Drive to Bulunkul through the Khargush pass (4344m), the primary source of the Amu Darya river. Drive around the surroundings of this region. There are many different lakes. From here, a view of Lake Bulunkul opens. Yashil-Kul and Bulunkul (Blue Lakes), located at an altitude of 3,700 meters above sea level, are located in the Murghab region. Fish species are abundant in the lake. There is an opportunity to see yaks, a unique species of domestic animals that share the traits of cows and sheep, traditionally used as the burden of the beast, in addition to milk and meat products. Day 6. Yashilkul – Koy Tezek pass (4270m.) – Gunt pass – Khorog

This morning we will return to the city of Khorog through another road in which we will also make several stops at the most interesting Pamir high-mountain plateaus of lakes. After crossing the Koy-Tezek pass, we will stop in the village of Zhelon, where the famous hot springs are located. People come here from all over the country for the healing properties of the spring water. Great opportunity to swim in this source. Continue driving to Khorog along the Gunt Valley. Arrival to Khorog. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 7. Khorog – Kalai Khumb.

In the morning we will start our trip to Kalai Khumb. All the way along the Pyanj River you will have the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking mountain views; and also on the other side of the river you will see the way of life on the Afghan side. From Khorog, the road goes along the Pyanj River, which forms the natural border of Tajikistan with Afghanistan. It’s a fun ride. Overnight at Kalai Khumb.

Day 8. Kalai Khumb – Kulob – Dushanbe

Early in the morning, drive back to Dushanbe along the southern road through Kulyab city, Khulbuk fortress, Dangara and Nurek. In Nurek you can admire the Nurek reservoir and visit the hydroelectric power station. Gala dinner in honor of the successful completion of the route along the Pamir highway, presentation of certificates and gifts.

Day 9. Dushanbe

End of service. Farewell with the group.
